and how to order a commission
What I DO and DON’T draw
DO
Sci-fi, fantasy or naturist art. Any kind of original characters or fanart outside the restrictions of the DON’T list. If you can describe it to me, and it’s not explicitly mentioned on the DON’T list, it’s generally on the DO list.
DON’T
Scat, inflation, and hyper (exaggerated body feature) fetishes. Underage characters in any kind of adult scenes. Sexually explicit scenes involving feral characters (fantastic sentient creatures may be an exception). Any depiction of birthing, be it sexual or not.
Disclaimers
- All payments are done via PayPal invoice, in USD. Due to increasing complications regarding virtual wallets my country, I will only accept installments for images of $500 or higher.
- I retain all rights to my artwork. Leasing and copyright transferring fees may be arranged upon request, but by default the client is prohibited to sell the work, or anything implied as representing the work in any way, such as by a non-fungible token (NFT). It may not be referenced by new contracts, including on distributed applications, without approval of the creator.
- I reserve the right to refuse a commission for any reason.
- All commissions must be purchased by people over the age of 18.
- I usually work one image after the other, but I might do some work from commissions further down the list to take breaks from extended periods of rendering or similar intense work. This means that I cannot give an accurate estimate of when your slot will be started/finished. I can make exceptions to this upon request and discussion, but I tend to avoid fixed due dates for the reasons stated above. As a rule of thumb, a fully-rendered illustration will take somewhere between three and six weeks.
The commission process
- Fill out and send this form here. You can check the current commission prices here.
- I will email a response saying whether or not I accept the commission. If I do, I will also send a price quote and your queue number in the progress list. If this doesn’t happen within 48hs, please send a mail to mariaanapaolo@gmail.com
- When I’m ready to start working on your slot, I will send an email to confirm you are still interested and to note down any changes to the image concept. If I don’t receive an answer within 48 hours I will move on to the next person on the list (you don’t lose the slot, you only get moved backwards one space). Upon confirmation, I’ll send you the rough sketch for your picture along with an invoice from PayPal to the address you’ve provided on the form.
- At this stage, I will continue working on the image once the PayPal payment has cleared. Commissions under $500 must be paid in full. Commissions of $500 or more can be paid 50% upfront and 50% later, but payment in full is required before the finished picture will be delivered.
WIP and changes policy
- 1st WIP - Rough sketch sent along with the invoice. It is mainly to figure out the composition and main elements of the image, so it will be undetailed shapes with general value ranges. Any amount of changes may be asked at this point, including up to 2 full redraws.
- 2nd WIP - This is a polished sketch. It will contain most details sketched out, as well as a rough approximation of the final colors. At this point, small details may be modified, as well as any kind of color adjustments, but only very simple structural changes are allowed (ex: one clothing piece for another or the expression on the character is fine, but having it be standing up instead of lying down is not).
- 3rd WIP - Half-way rendering. Only tiny detail changes are allowed, such as adding small clothing items or jewelry, modifying small background elements, etc.
- Once the final image is delivered, no changes are allowed unless it is a mistake on my part (ex: I missed a detail in their character sheet, or a request made in the 3rd WIP).
Note: All flat-colored sketch type commissions receive only the 1st rough-sketch WIP, and fully-rendered head-shots and busts only receive the 1st and 2nd WIPs. However, all of these may receive small changes upon completion, within reason.
Surcharge Modifiers
- Backgrounds: The complexity of backgrounds affects the price of the commission.
- Character design: When I am required to create a character design based off of a written reference alone it requires more effort and time, which is why it reflects in the price. Same goes for complex anatomy or complex large details like tattoos, complex clothes, etc. This will be analyzed on a case-by-case scenario.
- Alternate versions: I am open to working on alternate versions of commissions (ex: clothed/nude, summer/winter coats, day/night etc). The extra fee for these will be calculated on the amount of changes made to the original image.
Cancellation and Refund Policies
Due to my country’s current virtual wallet legislation (which dictates that all virtual wallet payments must be withdrawn and liquidated in local currency within 5 days of reception), refunds will not take place immediately upon request (aka: I’ll need to start a new commission to be able to refund yours).
If I am forced to cancel the commission, the client will receive a full refund.
In case of the client cancelling the commission, the payment will be refunded up to the stage of completion. For example, if a full color image was purchased but the image was cancelled at its sketch phase, the refund will be the payment minus the fee of the sketch. The uncompleted picture will be delivered as-is.
Once an image is completed, it will not be refunded.
If an image is cancelled at the rough sketch phase, before payment is sent, the rough sketch may be used for a YCH auction.
